FAQ's About Light Fixture Refinishing

Can my old lights be refinished, or do I need to replace them?

Light fixture refinishing and refurbishing by Phoenix Lighting Repair can save you hundreds over the cost of replacing with new lights:

  • Rust and corrosion removal
  • Repainting faded finishes
  • Cleaning of lenses/glass enclosures
  • Cleaning of fixture surfaces
  • Straightening bent fixture pieces
  • Rewiring fixtures that trip breakers
  • Replacing worn sockets
How much does it cost to get a coach light refinished?

There are many variables that can effect the cost of coach light refinishing. Typically, it costs between $120-240 per fixture for fixture removal, surface prep, new paint, and reinstallation. Faux-finishes and detailed fixtures that require hand-brushed painting will be on the higher end of that range.

Removing and reinstalling yourself will save you around $60 per fixture if you're on a budget.

Can you rewire my fixtures as well as repaint them?

Sometimes the wiring in outdoor light fixtures becomes brittle and cracked, which can create shorts that trip the breaker for that circuit. If your light fixture is causing these types of issues, there's a good chance I can rewire them so they keep working for many years to come.

The sockets in my coach lights aren't working, can you replace them?

It's common for sockets in outdoor fixtures to stop working after years of service. The Phoenix heat and blowing dust can deteriorate the metal contact points to the degree that new bulbs no longer light up.

If you replaced the bulb in your outdoor light fixture and it still doesn't work, this could be the cause.

In most cases, I can replace the socket with a new one to extend the life of your coach light, outdoor chandelier, or landscape light.

This service can be combined with surface refinishing, resulting in a fixture that's essentially brand-new, and for around half the cost of a new fixture.

I took my coach lights down myself, can I bring them to you for refinishing?

Yes! If you're removing and reinstalling your coach lights, you can call to schedule a drop-off at my shop for refinishing. Typically, this saves you around $60 per fixture, which is great for homeowners looking to save even more on the cost of coach light refinishing.

Can you restore coach lights that are 15 or more years old?

If you have coach lights that are 10, 20, or even 30+ years old, there’s a good chance I can restore them to their original beauty.

Also, if your fixture sockets have deteriorated with time, I can replace them to restore reliable lighting to your home’s exterior.

Whatever the issue might be with your aging coach lights, I'm here to help you save hundreds or even thousands over the cost of replacing with all-new fixtures.

The pole lights in our church parking lot have chipped paint and rusty areas. Is that something you can restore?

As long as they are structurally sound enough to stand, yes, I can restore the finish on poles for area lights. Whether your area lights are in a courtyard, parking lot, or commons area, I can restore the finish on their support poles to their former glory.

I strip away the chipped areas and rusty spots, use filler where needed to ensure a smooth appearance, and sand them down for a strong bond with the new paint.

I then clean any dust and debris from the surface, prep with etching primer wherever there was rust, and repaint with multiple coats using a rust-inhibiting paint.

This process ensures a beautiful finish for many years to come, even in the punishing Phoenix heat.

Can you refinish pier-mounted coach lights?

Yes! Whether your coach lights are pier-mounted (on top of a column) or surface-mounted on the wall, I can restore their finish. You can choose a basic one-color paint, or even a multi-color faux-finish to mimic a brushed metal look.

Can you color match my old lights with the new ones that I purchased?

Yes! If you bought some replacement fixtures and need to color-match some old ones so they all look brand new, that's something I can help with. When your old lights are faded, they can stick out like a sore thumb compared to new fixtures with a perfect finish. I'll repaint your old fixtures to match the new ones so everything looks uniform, saving you the cost of replacing every fixture.
